Project: Electric Scooter

All my hopes and dreams are sure to come true as I design and build my own electric scooter.

Starting with a kids mountain bike (a girls MTB no less!), I am chopping it up and rebuilding the frame in a more traditional “stand-on-scooter” set up – as opposed to a “sit-down-Grandma-scooter” setup.  I’m sourcing additional parts from various places…mostly eBay.

This should be considered a how not to DIY!  Unless it all goes well.

Let the journey begin!

Step 1: Initial design

My initial thoughts and ideas on how to make this thing a reality.  Most of these will change no doubt as I get more of the project together…that’s how I roll.  Pun definitely intended!

Step 2: Component Sourcing

This is actually one of the hardest steps of this project.  Well, not hardest but certainly one of the most labour intensive and time consuming steps.  Between component price, availability and shipping costs – it has been a nightmare!

Step 3: Electronics Bench Testing

Trying to get everything working as it should before designing the frame and body of the scooter.

More to come in the near future…
